Topic: Increased Security at Australian Airports

Travellers to Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands are urged to give themselves more time to check-in at domestic and international airports as the Australian Government has introduced additional aviation security measures.

Travellers are advised to:

  • Arrive at the airport two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.
  • Limit carry-on and checked baggage to streamline the departure process and help ensure security screening is efficient.
  • Expect extra scrutiny and delays when passing through security screening points but not be concerned by these precautionary measures.

Virgin Australia has confirmed that the additional aviation security measures have been implemented at Perth airport (domestic and international).

The screening processes at the Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands airports remain the same; however, airport staff will be extra vigilant.
