Topic: Rockfall Level One Alarm—25th June 2017
A Rockfall Level One Alarm was activated at 0100am on Sunday 25th June 2017 following heavy rainfall which exceeded the trigger of 52mm/hour at the Drumsite rain gauge. Access to Flying Fish Cove has been restricted in line with the Rockfall Risk Management Plan. These restrictions are required to remain in place for 24 hours following an activation.
In order to minimise the inconvenience to the Public, particularly in light of the Monday 26th June 2017 Hari Raya public holiday, the rockfall fence will be inspected this afternoon by AFP and IOTA staff. If the inspection reveals no rockfall activity has occurred, the restrictions will be lifted overnight to enable access to the boat ramp and Flying Fish Cove from 0100am Monday 26th June 2017. The removal of signage and fencing will indicate that the reopening has been successful.
A further bulletin will only be released if the inspection or further heavy rainfall prevents the restrictions from being lifted overnight.
The Emergency Management Committee appreciates the ongoing cooperation of the community to ensure the safety of personnel in landslide and rockfall susceptible areas.
