The National Awards for Local Government program (The Awards) has been rewarding excellence in Local Government service delivery for 33 years.

The Awards program seeks to recognise and promote innovative and resourceful solutions being driven by local government and making a positive impact in Australian communities.

Invitation to Apply

Entry submissions are sought from Local Governments about projects that demonstrate leading practice, deliver better outcomes for communities, have the potential to be rolled out across the country and make a meaningful difference to Australian communities.

Award Categories

Each year the Awards focus on local government projects that are relevant to the national agenda. In 2019 there are ten award categories. Local Governments are eligible to enter submissions in one or more of the following award categories:

How to enter

Entries are to be submitted using the online entry form.

It is recommended that you prepare your submission offline in a ‘Word document’ and ‘copy and paste’ into the online entry form.

Please note the following requirements for entry submissions.

  • In preparing your submission please ensure you have referred to the 2019 Submission Guidelines and the relevant Category Factsheet(s).
  • You are required to provide a project overview at point 1 of the Assessment Criteria in the online entry system.
  • A 300-word limit applies to each of the criteria.
  • Short attachments may be submitted to accompany your application (10 page limit)
  • Links to multimedia may be included in the submission or submission attachments.
