Topic: ABC Network Outages
As advised in Community Bulletin D51/2017 on 6 October 2017, and updated on 26 October 2017, there has been an outage to all ABC Digital TV (DTV) services on Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands since 3 October 2017. This outage has been caused by the ABC Broadcaster making an operational change to the radio signal beam that services the whole of Australia for ABC DTV content.
Based on advice from the ABC; equipment was procured to rectify the outage and arrived on both Islands Saturday 28 October 2017 , with work commencing immediately to resolve the outage. However, following installation of the replacement equipment, it was discovered that strength of the ABC signal is not sufficient to allow local equipment to lock on and enable transmission. As a result, ABC DTV remains unavailable in the Indian Ocean Territories. The Broadcast Maintenance specialist is working to engineer a solution in consultation with the ABC and the equipment manufacturer to resume broadcasting as soon as possible.
The community is reminded that this outage does not affect any other services; and any outages on commercial stations, SBS or FM radio services should continue to be reported to the email address firstname.lastname@example.org. Residents are encouraged to record this email address, as it is the only monitored account relating to TV and radio services on the island. Notification of outages through this address ensures action is taken to resume services as soon as possible.
