Topic: Wharf Crane at Flying Fish Cove

As community members may be aware, the wharf crane at Flying Fish Cove experienced a fault in a critical component on Friday 17 February. The port manager has been working closely with the crane manufacturer to determine the necessary repairs to return the crane to working order as soon as possible.

Once the repair requirements have been confirmed, the Department will provide an update to the community of the timeframe for the repairs and any interim cargo handling arrangements (if required).

The Department would also like to advise the community that it is currently in the process of engaging a technical specialist to provide advice on options to replace the crane and mooring systems at Christmas Island Port. This work will involve discussions with major users of the port to ensure the future port infrastructure meets the needs of the island.

I look forward to providing you with further updates on the progress of the crane repairs.
