Topic: ABC TV Outage on Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands
There is currently an outage to all ABC Digital TV (DTV) services on Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands, which has been in effect since 3 October 2017. This outage has been caused by the ABC Broadcaster making an operational change to the radio signal beam that services the whole of Australia for ABC DTV content.
It has been confirmed by our Broadcast Maintenance specialist, Cocos Communications and IT (CCIT), that the current DTV broadcasting equipment installed on both Christmas and Cocos Islands cannot cope with the newly upgraded ABC specifications. We are working on a solution at present but it is not expected that an appropriate course of action will be identified until 11 October 2017.
It is not possible to provide a definitive date for the return of services until the new equipment required has been identified and a lead time on supply to the island is known. We will continue to work on this as a matter of priority but it could take up to 6 weeks from purchase date of any equipment to resolve this issue. We will provide an update when we have these details.
Please note, this outage does not affect any other services and any outages on commercial stations, SBS or FM radio services should continue to be reported to the email address firstname.lastname@example.org.
