Topic: Provision of Social Work Services to the Indian Ocean Territories
As mentioned in the Community Bulletin dated 15 June 2017, Social Work services to the Indian Ocean Territories will now be managed by the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service (IOTHS).
I am pleased to announce that Andres Leal has been appointed to the interim Community Social Worker role, while IOTHS recruits to a longer-term position. The Community Social Worker position will be advertised shortly.
Mr Leal has worked with IOTHS and the Christmas Island community over the last 2 years and is an active community member. Mr Leal holds a Masters of Social Work and is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
Community members requiring the assistance of a Social Worker can contact Mr Leal directly on 0430 108 753 or email@example.com or through the IOTHS on (08) 9164 8333. Mr Leal will be located in his existing office behind the hospital, with no need for clients to present to the hospital reception desk. He plans to visit the Cocos (Keeling) Islands in late July 2017 and will be available to meet with existing and new clients.
As part of the transition to this new service, the records held by the previous Social Work service have been provided to me for confidential storage. Existing Social Work clients are encouraged to contact Mr Leal if they want to continue to receive a Social Work service. Client's records will only be released to Mr Leal with their written consent. IOTHS and the Indian Ocean Territories Administration adhere to the Privacy Act (1988) and all staff are guided by strict policies in the collection, use, release and disposal of personal and health information.
We look forward to continuing to provide high quality Social Work services to the communities of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
