Topic: Planned power outage—Sunday 9 April 2017

The Indian Ocean Territories Power Service (IOTPS) is remodelling its' “Black Start Procedure”, and as part of the process, it is essential to test the functionality and reliability of the system requiring a complete power outage.

IOTPS is intending to initiate an island wide power interruption on:

Date: Sunday 9th April

Time: 2.00am to 4.00am (it is expected to take approximately 1-2 hours)

Please be aware that this is an island wide outage and there will be no power to supply street lighting, emergency lighting or mains power except where this is supplied by backup generators or UPS systems.

Essential services, businesses and major installations will need to take additional precautions and are to ensure that backup generators are fuelled, serviced and ready to operate when the outage commences and UPS systems are operational and prepared for service.

Community members are also encouraged to take precautions by having torchlights on standby and to ensure electronic devices are either switched off or surge protectors in place to protect your equipment.

Upon completion of the planned outage, if you are experiencing any issues with supply to your house or property please contact the IOTPS Electrical on call number 0439 215 915 or 0439 215 919 for assistance.

For more information, please contact John Ford, Manager, IOTPS on 9164 7111 or via email to john.ford@infrastructure.gov.au.
