I am delighted that the Minister for Local Government and Territories, Senator the Hon Fiona Nash, has appointed members to the Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands Health Advisory Groups. These appointments follow a very competitive expressions of interest process.
The Health Advisory Groups were established by the Minister as a mechanism for the community to provide advice to the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service on services offered, cultural sensitivities, emerging needs, and optimal use of facilities.
Each Health Advisory Group comprises five volunteer members who are representative of their local communities. Members bring a range of skills and experience, including in business, research, administration and health services. A number are parents, bringing an understanding of child and teenage health needs.
As Chair of the Health Advisory Groups, I look forward to working with each member.
Each Health Advisory Group will meet quarterly. The first meeting of each Health Advisory Group will be held before the end of this year.
